Pioneers win 11 events at own meet

The UW-Platteville track and field teams won 11 events at the Pioneer Open Saturday.

No team scores were kept in the meet, which featured Wartburg, the University of Dubuque, Franciscan University and the Greater Milwaukee Track Club.

Mary Johnson set a school record in the 200-meter dash, winning in 26.57. She also anchored the winning 4x200 team that included Tracy Wilber, Ashley Plitzer, Sara Misurelli. The quartet posted a time of 1:51.63.

Carrie Morschauser won both the high jump (5-1) and long jump (16-7.75), while Beth Ambrosius took the pole vault in 10-10.

Andres Young, Josh Pluemer Derek Gibson were double winners on the men's side. Young won the 400 meters in 50.71, and joined Gibson, Cameron Klein and Pluemer to finish the day with a win in the 4x400 relay in 3:29.88. Pluemer, Phil Johnson, Ben Zizis, and Gibson won the 4x200 in 1:34.04. Josh Placke captured the 800 run in 1:58.10.

In the field events, Adam Charnstrom won the shot put in 48-3.5, while Jim Uppena took the weight throw in 54-6. Former Pioneer Dan Schultz set a Williams Fieldhouse record in the pole vault at 16-2.75.

The Pioneers will compete next at UW-Oshkosh Satuday.
