UW-Platteville's Jackie Mulrooney earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference runner of the week award after her record-breaking day at the Platteville Open Saturday.
Mulrooney, a sophomore from Hartland (Arrowhead High School), broke both the UW-Platteville and Williams Fieldhouse records in the 5,000-meter run, winning the race in 17:33.81. Her time was a NCAA Division III automatic qualifying mark.
Mulrooney will compete with fellow record-breakers Ryan Kleimeinhagen and Marcia Taddy at the University of Wisconsin Saturday. Illinois State, Indiana State and South Dakota State will join the Badgers and selected open runners for the Wisconsin Elite Invitational.
Mulrooney will run the 3,000-meter race, while Kleimenhagen will compete in the mile, and Taddy in the 800-meter run.
The rest of the Pioneers compete Friday night in a triangular at UW-Whitewater. Loras College will also participate.
