Sigl, Taddy star at WIAC Meet

UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl and Marcia Taddy earned the Track Athlete of the Meet Awards, highlighting the Pioneers' efforts at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Friday and Saturday at UW-River Falls.

Sigl won both the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs, while Marcia Taddy captured the 800- and 1,500-meter races and was part of the 4x800 relay team that captured the conference title in school-record fashion.. Ben Zizis also won a WIAC championship, taking the 110-meter hurdles

The Pioneers finished fifth in the men's team standings and sixth in the women's. UW-La Crosse won both team titles.

"We had a pretty good day," Pioneer Coach Jim Nickasch said. "We had a lot of kids come through with some good performances."

Sigl ran the 1,500 in 3:58.31 and the the 5,000 in 15:14.45, collecting his third and fourth WIAC title of the year. He also won the fall cross country championship and the 5,000 at the indoor championships.

Taddy made a clean sweep of WIAC awards this year, winning the cross country championship and earning the Track Athlete of the Meet after winning two events at the indoor events. On Saturday, she won the 800 in 2:13.26 and 1,500 in 4:41.69.

"That's pretty special to have them both win (athletes of the meet)," Nickasch said.

Emma Dreis finished just behind Taddy in their races, earning all-conference honors in each. (The top two finishers in each event earn all-WIAC accolades.) Dreis went 2:17.05 in the 800 and 4:42.58 in the 1,500.

Taddy, and Dreis teamed with Lindsey Vick and Jessica Scott to take the 4x800 relay in 9:21.14, winning by a whopping 16 seconds and topping the previous school mark by five seconds.

Zizis won his 110 hurdles title in 14.77, the only hurdler to be under 15 seconds, and in an NCAA III provisional qualifying mark.
