UW-Platteville's Marcia Taddy won two events and the Track Performer of the Meet, while Tyler Sigl captured the 5,000-meter run at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships Friday and Saturday at UW-Whitewater.
Taddy won both the mile and 800-meter runs Saturday and also placed third in the 3,000-meter run in an ambitious day of running. Taddy won the mile in 4:51.05 and the 800 in 2:11.59. Both are automatic qualifying times for the NCAA III national championships, although she already had qualified in both events earlier this season.
Sigl captured the 5,000-mile run Friday, running 14:42.96 and winning by more than six seconds. He was also second in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:24, being nipped at the wire by UW-Whitewater's Brian Butzler in 8:23.37.
The Pioneer women were fifth in the team standings, while the men were sixth. UW-La Crosse captured both team titles.
Emma Dreis also earned all-conference honors for the Pioneers, placing second to Taddy in the mile with a personal-best 4:54.19. She also automatically qualified for NCAA III nationals with one of the top times in conference history. She was fourth in the 800 in 2:17.99, while teammate Jessica Scott was fifth in 2:18.5. Emily O'Brien added a fifth place in the shot put at 41-0.5.
Tony Fontanini was third in the pole vault in an NCAA provisional height of 15-9.75, while Eric Bakkum was third in the heptathlon with 4667 points, breaking his own school mark in the process. Brian Steingraber (57-3) and Corey Digman (55-9.25) were third and fourth in the 35-pound weight throw, both with NCAA III provisional qualifying marks. Ben Zizis added a fourth-place finish in the 55 hurdles with a time of 7.76. just two-hundredths of a second off his season-best.
