Running what UW-Platteville distance coach Tom Antczak called "the most amazing accomplishment in school track and field history," Marcia Taddy ran the fastest 1,000-meter run ever in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Saturday, highlighting the Platteville Open Saturday in Williams Fieldhouse.
Taddy turned in a stunning 2:47.37 in the 1,000-meter run which was better than all but one collegiate runner in the entire 2006 indoor season. Only Villanova's Frances Koons has had a better time (2:47.08) in the last two years in any NCAA division.
Taddy's time broke any existing WIAC school mark by 11 seconds. In fact, Pioneer sophomore Emma Dreis surpassed that mark, finishing second in 2:55.22.
Tyler Sigl also broke a school record on the men's side, winning the 3,000-meter race in 8:25.88. Like Taddy, he established a new Williams Fieldhouse mark as well.
Brian Steingraber won two events, taking the weight throw in 51-8 and the shot put in 49-4.5
Also winning for the Pioneers were Mitch Spees in the 400 at 51.55, Nate Richardson in the mile run at 4:27.40, Qynne Kelly in the 800 in 2:30.55, Taylor Johnson in the long jump at 16-4 3/4 and the women's 4x400 relay team of Becky Kempfert, Sarah Weisman, Alison Ross and Bobbi Arand in 4:22.82.
The non-scoring meet included athletes from Loras, Dubuque, Clarke, St. Ambrose, Mount Mercy, Coe, the Greater Milwaukee Track Club and many unnattached athletes.
