Six UW-Platteville track and field athletes will compete in the NCAA Division III national championships Thursday through Saturday at UW-Oshkosh.
Coach Jim Nickasch's contingent includes three males and three females, with two Pioneers pulling double duty.
Marcia Taddy will compete in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. She currently has the top time in the 1,500 (4:22.56) and the second-best in the 800 (2:09.18). The 13-time all-American will be joined by UWP teammates in each event. Emma Dreis has the second-best mark in the 1,500 (4:28.19), while Jessica Scott has the eighth-best time in the 800 (2:11.79). Taddy won three national titles at the indoor championship, including joining with Dreis, Scott and Bobbi Arand to win the Distance Medley Relay race. The Pioneers were fifth in the nation in the indoor meet.
Tyler Sigl will compete in both the 5,000 and 10,000 runs. He has the second-best time in the 10,000 at 30:03.02 and the fifth-best in the 5,000 at 14:27.02. The six-time all-American was third in the 5,000 at last year's outdoor championships.
Kyle Stangel is making his second trip to nationals, as he had the eighth-fastest time in the 1,500 at 3:50.10. Ben Zizis earned his first national championship experience, coming in with the fifth-best mark in the 110 high hurdles at 14:52.
