Taddy earns regional athlete of the year

UW-Platteville's Marcia Taddy (third from right) earned the NCAA III Midwest Regional Track Athlete of the Year Award.

The Two Rivers native has the fastest Division III times of the season in the 800 (2:09.54) and mile (4:47.42). No other runner is within six seconds of her mile best entering this week's NCAA Championships. Taddy won the mile and placed third in the 800 at last year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. She is a 10-time all-American and two-time national champion in track and field and cross country.

She leads the Pioneer contingent into this weekend's national championships at Rose-Hulman College in Terre Haute, Ind.

Taddy is ranked first not only in the 800 and mile but also in the distance medley relay with Emma Dries, Bobbi Arand and Jessica Scott at 11:40.45.

Dreis is ranked second to Taddy in the mile as well. Her qualifying mark is 4:54.19.

On the men's side, Tyler Sigl is sixth in the 5,000 at 14:37.23 and Tony Fontanini is 11th in the pole vault at 16-0.
