
UW-Platteville's Marcia Taddy and Tyler Sigl earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track Athletes of the Week awards for their peformances at the Platteville Open Jan. 20.
Taddy, a senior from Two Rivers ran the fastest 1,000-meter ever in the WIAC. She turned in a stunning 2:47.37 in the 1,000-meter run which was better than all but one collegiate runner in the entire 2006 indoor season. Only Villanova’s Frances Koons has had a better time (2:47.08) in the last two years in any NCAA division. Taddy’s time broke any existing WIAC school mark by 11 seconds.
Sigl, a junior from Seymour, broke the UW-Platteville school record by winning the 3,000-meter race in 8:25.88. He also established a new Williams Fieldhouse mark. Sigl's time was almost 12 seconds faster than the winning mark in last spring’s WIAC championships and 19 seconds better than the 2005 winning time.
Taddy has earned eight athlete of the week awards in her cross country, indoor and outdoor track careers, while Sigl has garnered six.
