Sigl, Taddy earn more all-America awards

UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl and Marcia Taddy capped off outstanding 2005-06 seasons by earning all-America honors at the NCAA Division III national track and field championships Saturday at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.

Sigl, a sophomore from Seymour, placed third in the 5,000-meter run, while Taddy, a sophomore from Two Rivers, took sixth in the 1,500-meter run.

They were two of six Pioneers who qualified for the national championships. Nathan Wells, a senior from Marshall, was 10th in the decathlon with 6,213 points. He won the pole vault portion of the 10-event competition in 14-9, bettering his season best by more than 15 inches. Cam Klein (Jr., Monroe) was 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Carrie Morschauser (Sr., Deerfield) was 15th in the high jump, and Jackie Mulrooney (Jr., Hartland/Arrowhead) was 18th in the 5,000.

Both Sigl and Taddy were making their third trip to nationals this year, having already competed in cross country and indoor track.

Sigl, who was fourth in last fall's cross country national meet, finished the 5,000-meter run in 14:56.64 to place third Saturday. Widener's Macharia Yuot won the tile in 14:48.96, while Colorado College's Julian Briggs was runner-up in 14:51.26.

Taddy, who already has eight track and one cross country all-America honors, was sixth in the 1,500 meters in 4:34.57. North Central's Amber Druien won the race in 4:28.03. Taddy, who took home three all-America honors at the indoor championships, just missed another when she placed ninth in the 800. The top eight finishers in each meet earn national honors.
