Pioneers compete in three sites

The UW-Platteville track and field team tuned up for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet by heading west--and to three different Iowa schools.

The majority of the Pioneers competed at Loras Saturday, while two relay teams placed ninth at the Drake Relays, and others ran at Simpson College.

On Friday, The women's distance medley relay team of Emma Dreis, Mayia Corcoran, Marcia Taddy and Lindsey Vick was ninth in 12:23.28, while the sprint medley team of Mary Johnson, Bobbi Arand, Corcoran and Jessica Scott finished ninth in 4:10.65.

Because of Thursday's warm and Saturday's rainy weather in Des Moines, several Pioneers scheduled to compete in Drake went to Simpson's Kip Janvrin Open. Tyler Sigl turned in the top performance, finishing second in the 5,000-meter run at 14:42.88.

Carrie Morshauser was the lone Pioneer winner in contested events at Loras, taking the high jump in 5-5. Vick returned from Des Moines to place second in the 1,500 in 4:54.20, while Josh Pluemer was second in the 400 in 50.90, and Tim Jankwoski was runner-up in the javelin at 176-4. No team scores were kept in the large meet which included the Wisconsin Badger men.

The WIAC championships are Friday and Saturday at UW-Oshkosh.
