Despite falling rains and temperatures, the UW-Platteville women's track and field team set two records Friday at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
Marcia Taddy lowered her own time in the 800-meter run with a 2:10.62, knocking almost a full second off her record in a highly competitive race. Taddy placed fourth overall, and third among NCAA Division III runners. North Central's Amber Druien (2:08.56), Calvin's Camilelle Medema (2:10.31), Taddy, and UW-Whitewater's Megan Kieler (2:11.13) ran the four fastest times in NCAA Division III this year during that race. All four automatically qualified for nationals, where they are set for a rematch.
The women's 4x400 relay team took almost a full three seconds off the school record. Mary Johnson, Alison Ross, Emma Dreis and Mayia Corcoran ran 3:56.27, an NCAA III provisional qualifying mark.
Also Friday, Tyler Sigl and Cam Klein both hit provisional marks in the 1,500-meter run. Sigl finished second in 3:51.9, while Klein was fourth in 3:53.4. Sigl is currently ranked 12th in the country, while Klein's effort was 17th fastest this year.
The Pioneers will compete in various last-chance meets this week in order to qualify for nationals, which are May 25-27 at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.
