Pioneers take three firsts at North Central

Nick Fix, Mary Johnson and Carrie Morschauser won individual events to pace the UW-Platteville track and field teams at the North Central Red/White Invitational Friday in Naperville, Ill.

The men placed fourth among nine teams in the meet with included WIAC powers UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh as well as host North Central. The women were fifth of eight schools. UW-La Crosse took the men's title, while UW-Oshkosh was the women's winner.

Fix and Johnson both turned in firsts and seconds. Fix won the triple jump in 44-11 and was second in the long jump at 21-10.75. Johnson captured the 200-meter run in 25.60 and the 100 in 12.45, tying her own school record with her 200 time. Morschauser won the high jump in 5-3.75, while Pioneer teammate Kristy Triggs was third at 4-11.

Cam Klein placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:26.87, while Alison Ross was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.88.

Besides Triggs, those placing third were Ben Zizis in the 110 hurdles, Cody Helgeson in the high jump, Tim Jankowski in the pole vault, the women's 4x100 relay team and two discus throwers, Brian Steingraber and Emily O'Brien.
