The UW-Platteville track and field teams tuned up for the upcoming conference meets in impressive ways Saturday at the Pointer Qualifier at UW-Stevens Point.
The up-and-coming women's team placed second out of nine schools, which included three other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, while the men were third out of 13.
The Pioneers will compete in the same facility next Friday and Saturday in the WIAC championships.
UW-Platteville won four events in the women's competition and three in the men's.
Marcia Taddy re-claimed the school record Jessica Scott broke at Iowa State by winning the 800-meter run in 2:13.05, which automatically qualifies her for the NCAA III national championships. Lindsey Vick won the mile in 5:15.78, while Jackie Mulrooney captured the 3,000 in 10:26.84.
Both Pioneer female relay teams set school records in their events with NCAA provisional qualifying times. (Note: individual relay members were the ones scheduled to run those events.)
Ben Zizis won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.86, while Nate Richardson--healthy for one of the first times this year--won the 800 in 1:56.70, and Aaron Whalen took the 5,000 in 16:05.01.
Finishing runners-up in their events were Cam Klein in the mile in an NCAA provo time of 4:14.85, and Carrie Morschauser in the high jump in 5-5.75, a quarter-inch off the school mark and another NCAA provisional-qualifying mark.

Besides the women's 4x400, also placing third were Ross in the 55 hurdles (9.25), Heberlein in the 400 (59.17), Tracy Wilber in the 55 dash (7.44), Lacey Curtis in the 5,000 (19:48.07) and pole vaulters in both competitions.
