Seventh-seeded UW-Platteville gave top-seeded UW-Whitewater all it could handle before the Warhawks pulled out a 6-5 victory in eight innings Sunday at the WIAC tournament in Stevens Point.
Alli Driscoll singled in the eighth and eventually scored from third by beating a ball hit in the infield for the winning run. UWW improved to 30-7 on the year, while the Pioneers finished 14-21.
Patty Meoska hit a two-run home run in the second inning, and Dru Schneider clubbed a three-run HR in the fifth for the Pioneers. The Warhawks' Suzanne Gersich homered leading off the bottom of the seventh, tying the score and forcing an extra inning.

Lindsay Weigand put the finishing touches on the night with a grand-slam home run in the seventh inning, the 11th bases-loaded HR in Pioneer history.
Schneider and Bridgette Clark each had two hits, and five of the nine hitters drove home at least two runs. Maggie Medlicott threw the first three innings, and Katie Sutter earned the win by throwing the final four. Sutter worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth without allowing a run, preserving a 7-4 lead.
