UW-Whitewater overcame early UW-Platteville leads twice to sweep the Pioneers, 6-4 and 5-2 Wednesday at the UWP Softball Complex.

After the Pioneers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Lauren Cruz and Amanda LeBeau led off the second with doubles and scored on a Liz Yucuis single. LeBeau homered in the fourth inning for a 3-1 lead.

Jessica Stang held the Pioneers hitless from Tera Burr's leadoff single in the first until her double in the sixth. Burr scored on a double steal in the sixth, cutting the lead to 4-2. The Warhawks answered wtih two unearned runs in the seventh, which proved important as the Pioneers also scored twice. Lindsay Weigand homered, and Patty Meoska had a run-scoring sacrifice fly, but the Pioneers could get no closer than the 6-4 final score.

Burr led off the Pioneer first with a home run in the second game, and Nikki Hansen and Becky Swanson had back-to-back doubles for a 2-1 advantage. Lauren Rankins flipped the lead back to the Warhawks in the fourth with a two-run home run. UWW preserved the lead in the bottom of the inning when rightfielder Suzanne Gersich threw out Bridgette Clark trying to score from second on a single. The Warhawks added two insurance runs in the seventh.

UWW improved to 22-6 overall and 10-2 in the WIAC, while UWP fell to 10-18, 4-7.

The Pioneers will complete their suspended game with UW-Oshkosh here Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Titans left Platteville up 1-0 in the second inning April 3 when the rains came. The Pioneers had won the opener 2-1 and will try and complete the strange sweep to knock the Titans out of first place.
