Katie Sutter homered in her fifth straight game, a 9-7 win over Mount Aloysius College, but her HR streak and the UW-Platteville win streak came to an end in a 9-3 loss to Bridgewater, Va. Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Sutter and Terra Burr both homered in the second inning in the opener, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. After Mt. Aloysius eventually tied the score at 4-4, Whitney Foltz delivered a clutch two-run single, giving the Pioneers the lead for good in the sixth. Dru Schneider also added a run-scoring single in the five-run frame.
Sutter pitched the complete-game victory, backed by a 10-hit attack. Schneider had three hits, and Burr added a double to her first home run of the year. Sutter also had a pair of hits as the Pioneers won their fourth straight game.
The Pioneers out-hit Bridgewater 9-8 in the second game, but a pair of errors allowed four unearned runs in the sixth inning. Degan Rutledge's three-run HR was the big blow for Bridgewater, who also had two homers by Caity Butler.
Becky Swanson, Stefany Delifer and Sutter each had two hits for the Pioneers, who are now 4-3 on their southern trip.
The Pioneers conclude their South Carolina action Thursday with games against Scranton and Shawnee State.
