UWP Softball
Katie Sutter and Tera Burr were first team picks
May 7, 2008

UW-Platteville hitting machines Terra Burr and Katie Sutter earned first team all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors, and four more Pioneers earned all-conference awards.

Maggie Medlicott, Becky Swanson, and Lindsay Weigand earned honorable mention status, while Patty Meoska earned a spot on the inaugural all-Sportsmanship Team.

Burr, a junior second baseman from Shawano, earned her third straight all-WIAC honor. She was fifth in the league in hitting at .438 and led the conference in home runs with 12 and slugging percentage at .943. She already was named to the all-Louisville Slugger/NFCA Great Lakes Region second team.

Sutter, a freshman third baseman and pitcher from Barneveld, hit home runs in each of her first five collegiate games, believed to be an NCAA record. She hit .333 on the year and finished with eight home runs while also winning five of 10 starts on the mound.

Former Neenah High School teammates Medlicott and Swanson earned honors for the first time, as did fellow senior Weigand (Fort Atkinson). Medlicott won eight games, including the seventh no-hitter in school history, 6-0 over UW-Superior April 19. Swanson hit a career-best .341 with eight home runs, including a memorable two-run sixth inning blast that gave the Pioneers a 2-1 win over UW-Oshkosh. Weigand, a first baseman, also smashed eight home runs, including the school's 11th grand-slam that helped beat UW-La Crosse 15-4 in the WIAC playoffs. Weigand hit .301 on the year.

Meoska, a senior from Bagley (River Ridge), tied an NCAA III record with two runs in the same inning, coming against Scranton (Penn.) March 20.

The Pioneers were 7-8 in the WIAC under third-year coach Heather Townsend and 14-21 overall. They again broke their school record for home runs with 49. The Pioneers lose six seniors off the team: Medlicott, Swanson, Weigand, Meoska, shortstop Nikki Hansen and outfielder Stefany Delifer.
