Medlicott suffers another hard-luck loss

UW-Platteville's Maggie Medlicott suffered yet another hard-luck loss as UW-Eau Claire beat the Pioneer ace 2-0 Sunday. The host Blugolds completed the sweep with a 10-3 victory in the second game.

The Pioneers have scored just once in Medlicott's last four starts, getting shut out the last three times. Mallory McKinney (five innings) and Kristi Doucette (two innings) combined on a one-hitter, a Patty Meoska single in the third. Mandy Tschernach drove in both Blugold runs in the fourth.

UWEC exploded for eight runs in the first inning of the second game, putting together six hits and using two Pioneer errors. Jill Janke had three hits to pace the Blugolds (27-11 overall, 10-6 in the WIAC).

Nikki Hansen homered for the second straight day for the Pioneers, tying Maggie Digman for the team lead at eight.

The Pioneers (8-24, 1-13) play host to UW-La Crosse Monday at 3 p.m. and Edgewood Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the final regular-season doubleheaders. The WIAC tournament begins Friday at UW-Eau Claire.
