The UW-Platteville softball team split a pair of slugfests Monday, falling 10-5 to Concordia (Neb.) and beating Cortland State (N.Y.) 12-10 in eight innings.
The Pioneers powered out five home runs on the day, including a trio of three-run HRs in the nightcap. Maggie Digman homered in both games, giving her three HRs in four games. Becky Swanson hit one out of the park in the opener, while Tera Burr and Nikki Hanson joined Digman by hitting three-run bombs in the victory over Cortland State.
Dru Schneider knocked in two runs in the top of the eighth against Cortland State, and Swanson scored on a wild pitch. Addy Hart yielded one run in the bottom of the eighth but held on for her first collegiate victory.
Hard-hitting UWP is now 2-2 at the Sun West Games in Orange, Calif. The Pioneers, batting .300 with eight home runs and averaging 7.5 runs per game, play two games Wednesday, facing Occidental (Calif.) and Wesleyan (Mass.).
