UW-Platteville and Clarke College split a pair of 2-1 games Monday, with the Pioneers winning the first contest, and the Crusaders taking the second in eight innings.
The Pioneers are now 5-7 overall after the rainy day in Dubuque, while the Crusaders are 6-6.
UWP's Katie Larson threw a five-hitter in the opener and did not allow a hit over the final three frames. The senior improved to 3-3 on the year with the complete-game win.
Lindsay Weigand doubled home Ashley Strnad with the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Weigand ripped a two-out double for the eventual game-winner.
Sophomore Patty Meoska hit her first collegiate extra-base hit, a solo home run in the second to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Tera Burr also had three hits for the Pioneers.
In the nightcap, Clarke's Chelsea Bettcher singled home Cari Arundel with one out in the eighth, giving the home school the 2-1 win.
Three Clarke pitchers combined to hold the Pioneers to three hits, although one was Weigand's first career home run. The sophomore third baseman hit the ball out of Veterans Park in the fourth inning, tying the score at 1-1.
Maggie Medlicott pitched all seven-plus innings for the Pioneers, scattering seven hits while striking out four.
The Pioneers' home opener is set for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. against powerhouse Wartburg. The Knights are 15-3 on the year, heading into Tuesday's games with UW-La Crosse.
