Posted October 28, 2009
Dubuque's Sara Fassbinder tied the score with 1:28 to play, then scored the winning goal in overtime, leading the Spartans past UW-Platteville 3-2 Wednesday night in Pioneer Stadium.
The loss ended the Pioneers' season at 8-10-2 and also marked the last game for seniors Sarah Gengler, Kim Schneckloth and Amber Taylor.
It appeared that the seniors would go out on a high note, as UWP bolted to a 2-0 lead. Sarah Miller scored her fifth goal of the year and third in two games, taking a pass from Schneckloth and shooting from 12 yards out in the 37th minute.
Anna Strasser, on an assist from Marissa Mol scored 1:13 into the second half for the 2-0 advantage.
The Spartans' Ashly Hamilton scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute after the Pioneers were called for a hand-ball in the box. UWP keeper Kaitlyn Wiedeman made several spectacular saves before Fassbinder broke through at 88:32.
Dubuque improved to 13-5 on the year.
