UW-Platteville's Ashley Alonso earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference soccer defender of the week. She is a freshman from McFarland.
Alonso anchored a defense that yielded just one goal in three matches and helped the Pioneers snap two long WIAC streaks. UW-Platteville beat UW-La Crosse 1-0, breaking an 0-18-1 skid against the Eagles, and tied UW-Oshkosh 1-1, stopping an 0-16 slide against the Titans. The Pioneers also blanked Waldorf College (Iowa) 8-0.
