UW-Platteville broke out of its scoring slump in a big way, beating Ripon 3-0 Tuesday night at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Despite the chilly night, the Pioneers warmed up quickly. Sarah Miller, on an assist from Jackie Baumgart, scored just 14:17 into the contest for the Pioneers, who had been shut out four straight times.
Sarah Gengler gave UWP a 2-0 halftime advantage, taking a nice feed from Meghan McGivern and racing down the left side to score her first goal of the year.
Morgan McKenzie, off a Kim Schneckloth crossing pass, extended the lead 1:13 into the second half.
Both Laurie Trifone and Mallory Bender had two saves for the Pioneers, who registered their fourth shutout of the year.
The Pioneers improved to 3-7-3 overall, while Ripon fell to 3-10.
UW-Platteville is back in action Thursday at Olivet Nazarane, then plays its final home game Saturday at 5 p.m. vs. UW-River Falls.
