Pioneers stopped by Warhawks and posts

UW-Platteville had its 11-game unbeaten streak stopped by UW-Whitewater, not to mention the cross bar, Wednesday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

The Warhawks beat the Pioneers 1-0, handing the Pioneers just their second loss of the year and their first in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UWP is now 8-2-2, 1-1-2, while UW-Whitewater is 3-6-1, 1-2-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers' Kim Schneckloth hit the post, Paula Duerst was just wide of the post, Hope Huston was blocked and both Ashly Hamilton and Amber Piacentine just went over the bar in the first 10 minutes of the fast-paced second half.

The Warhawks, who had their own shot bounce off the cross bar, scored their lone goal 5:50 into the second hal. Lindsey Kohlbeck left the ball for Mary Donohoo, who went from right to left with a low shot.

The Pioneers had 16 shots to the Warhawks' 14, and both had seven shots on goal. Laurie Trifone made six saves for UWP, while UWW keeper Sam Neely had seven.

UW-Platteville plays at UW-River Falls Saturday in a game that has been changed to 2 p.m.
