Pioneers tripped by Falls

UW-River Falls tipped visiting UW-Platteville 3-2 in a big Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons improved to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers left the game at 8-3-2, 1-2-2.

Kim Saufl scored twice, each time assisted by Ashley Peterson, for a 2-0 first-half Falcon lead. The Pioneers cut the margin to 2-1 when Ashly Hamilton finished off a long run with a goal. Peterson answered with a penalty kick at the 74:55 mark for a 3-1 lead. The Pioneers battled back, scoring at the 85:20 mark on an Allie Metcalfe goal, but could not finish off the comeback.

The Pioneers are right back in action Sunday night, facing Cornell College at 7 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
