UW-Platteville held Kim Monigold and Carissa Landolt, two of the top scorers in the Iowa Conference, without a shot while beating host University of Dubuque 2-1 Thursday night.
Allie Metcalf tied the score at 1-1 off a penalty kick at the 76:40 mark, while Ashly Hamilton scored the game-winner with just under five minutes to play. Kelsy McKenzie assisted on the winning goal, helping the Pioneers' unbeaten streak to eight.
UW-Platteville is 7-1-2 on the year, easily the best start in school history. The Pioneers are just two wins shy of the most wins in program history, set last year.
The Spartans (5-5) came into the contest averaging 4.11 goals per game, and boast three of the top four goal scorers in the Iowa Conference. Only Cailtin Tero, who scored three minutes into the second half, was able to squeeze off a shot.
"Our defense was outstanding," Coach Chris Bianchi said. "Megan Ferrera did a great job. They just refused to lose."
The Pioneers are back in action Saturday night, playing host to Ripon College at 7 p.m.
