Ashly Hamilton scored twice and assisted on the other goal, leading UW-Platteville to a 3-1 victory over Beloit College Wednesday night in the Pioneers' final home game.
After the Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead on Sophie Perry score off a corner kick 8:58 into the game, the Pioneers answered with two first-half goals. Allie Metcalfe turned a Hamilton pass into a breakaway goal, going right down the center of the field and beating Bucs goalkeeper Katie Schurr at the 15:47 mark. With exactly one minute to play in the half, Hamilton had a nearly identical goal, turning a short Amber Piacentine pass into a long run down the middle of the field, and a score.
Hamilton blasted in a shot from 35 yards out with just under 17 minutes to play for an insurance goal.
Both teams took 16 shots, with the Pioneers landing nine on goal and the Bucs five. Laurie Trifone made four saves for the Pioneers, while Schurr had six for Beloit.
The Pioneers improved to 12-5-2 overall, while the Buccaneers fell to 7-8. UWP is scheduled to conclude its regular season Friday at UW-Stout in a 7 p.m. game and then open WIAC playoffs Tuesday at a site to be determined.
