By Heather Schaufenbil, Sports Information Student Assistant

The UW-Platteville women's soccer team will attempt to break a record during the Friday, Oct. 20 Homecoming game against UW-Oshkosh. The record to break: attendance. The attendance record for the NCAA Division III is set at 1,200 people and with the spirits of homecoming in the air, UWP with be trying to smash that record.

"It's a Friday night, it's homecoming, and it's women’s soccer playing in our new stadium. What better time than now to attempt to break an NCAA record?" said athletic director Mark Molesworth. "We are hoping to draw a big crowd of students, parents, youth soccer players and the surrounding Platteville community to support our women's soccer program."

During halftime there will be relay races as well as cash and UWP merchandise giveaways. Cash prizes include $100, $50 and $25. Lands' End will be giving away an attaché case and apparel, while UW-Platteville will be giving away athletic apparel and women's soccer gear. Kickoff time is at 7 p.m. at the Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. Admission for adults will be $4, students $2, and UWP students are admitted free with I.D.

The women’s soccer team is off to its best start ever and is one win away from breaking the school record. The game against UW-Oshkosh could determine home field advantage and WIAC playoff seedings.
