UW-Platteville jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and defeated Coe 6-1 for its fifth straight win, Tuesday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
Brian Gottschlich, on an assist from Dan Howard, and Eric Christensen, off a centering pass from Ben Terpening, scored five minutes apart midway through the first half. Keith Gronke then finished off the half with a couple of fakes and a rocket shot across the field from 28 yards out that found the left corner of the net.
Terpening scored eight minutes into the second period and the Pioneers rolled from there. Coach Enzo Fuschino was able to substitute liberally throughout the game. After the Kohawks' Yusuke Okada scored, the Pioneers' Mitch Cornelius and Tyler Holle finished off the scoring with shots from in front of the goal. Gottlschich and Cory McCullough earned assists.
The Pioneers out-shot the visitors from Cedar Rapids by a 29-4 count. Goalkeeper Kris Bosshart earned the win for UWP.
UWP improved to 7-2, while Coe fell to 2-4-1. The Pioneers play at Loras Sunday at 2 p.m., then return home to face Ripon next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
