The game had all the signs of a classic trap game: the second road game in as many nights against a winless team eager to make their season by knocking off a nationally ranked club.
While Ripon College set the trap Saturday, Ben Terpening and Alex Albright helped the Pioneers escape it.
Terpening scored 10:38 into overtime, giving 23rd-ranked UW-Platteville a 1-0 win over the Red Hawks Saturday night.
Terpening took a crossing pass from Alex Albright, and scored the game-winner. It was his third game-winning goal of the year, tying Albright.
The Pioneers improved to 8-0 on the year, while the Red Hawks fell to 0-8 on the rain-soaked pitch.
UWP pounded out 33 shots, but Red Hawk keeper Dave Freisleben made 14 saves. Steve Wise recorded the shutout for the Pioneers, saving six shots.
The Pioneers play host to Rockford College Tuesday at 7 p.m.
