Pioneers pull away in second half

After going scoreless for the first 58-plus minutes, UW-Platteville scored three goals in under seven minutes and went on to defeat North Central College 3-1 Monday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

Alex Albright scored twice in a 1:32 span, both times getting good centering passes from Ben Terpening on the right side. Keith Gronke was credited with a second assist on the second goal for his long pass down the sideline to Terpening.

Terpening was then on the other end of a crisp centering pass, taking one from the left side from Eric Sautbine and scoring. Albright scored his 10th and 11 goals, while Terpening recorded his ninth.

David Bertalmio scored the lone North Central goal when he booted in a rebound shot after Kevin Mortlock's direct kick.

The Pioneers improved to 11-2 overall, while North Central fell to 0-13.

UWP is back on its home field Wednesday, playing host to Augstana (Ill.) at 7 p.m.
