Brabender saves tie

Soccer is a team sport, but every once in a while, it comes down to one man against another with the game on the line.

UW-Platteville's Scott Brabender experienced one of those moments Friday night.

With seven seconds left in double overtime of a 1-1 game, Benedictine's Shawn Wilson had a breakaway opportunity, with no Pioneer defender within yards. All that stood between a Benedictine upset win and the tie was Brabender.

The freshman goalkeeper from Middleton came out on Wilson, forcing a hurried shot that Brabender smothered as the time expired, preserving the 1-1 tie.

The Pioneers escaped Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium with that tie, making their record 9-4-4. The Eagles are now 0-12-2.

Ben Terpening scored the Pioneer goal at 72:01 in the second half, while the Eagles' Robbie Maestas tied the contest with just 2:05 remaining.
