After 86 scoreless minutes of soccer Thursday, UW-Platteville's Jeremy Kastner took things into his own heads. Or make that head.
Kastner headed a perfectly passed ball from Devin Wallace into the net, and the goal stood up for a 1-0 win over Clarke College Thursday at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. Wallace had lofted the pass from the right corner, and Kastner headed in the game-winner into the net with 4:02 remaining.
The win kept the Pioneers undefeated on the year at 3-0-1, while the Crusaders fell to 1-2.
UWP out-shot the Dubuque visitors 20-6, including a 9-1 margin in shots on goal. Scott Brabender pitched the shutout in the nets for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers play Waldorf College Saturday at 5 p.m.
Schedule Change
Because Rockford College could not field a men's team this year, Tuesday's scheduled game in Illinois has been cancelled. Instead, the Pioneer men picked up an extra home game. UWP will play host to Aurora on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
