UW-Platteville will play host to its first-ever women's golf invitational Saturday and Sunday, as eight teams will join the Pioneers on the challenging Platteville Golf&Country Club course.
"It's going to be amazing to have them come here and see what we have to play on," senior Michelle Ebert said. "If you can walk this course, you can walk any course. This course takes it toll on everyone. You have to be physically fit to walk this course."
The Pioneers previously hosted the 2003 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships, but this will be the first regular-season invitational. UW-Oshkosh's meet is annually the second weekend of the season, but scheduling difficulties prevented the Titans from hosting, and they approached UWP Coach Peter Reif about a tournament.
"I said of course we would want to," he said. "I presented it to the board, and the board accepted, so here we are. We'll see if it's something we can continue annually."
Carroll, Ripon, UW-Oshkosh, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior, UW-Whitewater, and Viterbo will compete in the meet.
"It will be great to have a team meet here," Ebert said. "It will be really fun, especially being able to help coach with all the things involved. We know how tournaments are run, so this will be fun."
