UW-Platteville kicker Tony Smidl earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honor after his play in the Pioneers' 13-9 victory over Augustana, Ill. Saturday.

Smidl, a junior from Oshkosh (West High School), booted a career-long 39-yard field goal as well as a 31-yarder. He was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and converted his extra point. Smidl also averaged 58.3 yards on his first four kickoffs, then squibbed a 32-yarder to the Viking 48 after the Pioneers took a deliberate safety with eight seconds to play.

The 2-1 Pioneers open conference play Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. 2-1 UW-Stout at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. UWP is urging its fans to wear orange for the annual Homecoming game to create an "Orange Crush" in the stands.

The public is invited to the UW-Platteville football luncheon Friday at noon in the East-West Rooms of the Pioneer Student Center. The cost is $7 for the meal. Coach Mike Emendorfer and selected players will review last week's game and preview the big Homecoming contest.
