Junior Nick Grosso caught a 5-yard scoring pass from freshman Joe Burkeland in overtime, leading the Blue to a 14-7 victory over the White squad in the UW-Platteville intrasquad game Saturday, played before a larger-than-anticipated crowd at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

Senior Chris Booze helped seal the game for the Blue, rushing classmate Michael Schmidt into an incomplete pass on fourth down in the extra session, ending the spirited contest.

Freshman Jon Martin forced overtime with a 25-yard touchdown run on White's last possession, and freshman David Hanson's extra point knotted the score. Freshman Sam Schmidt put the Blue on the board first with a seven-yard run. Sophomore Tony Smidl kicked both Blue point-after attempts. Freshman Mike Rizzio led all quarterbacks with 95 yards passing, including four for 67 yards to freshman Darin Blaser. Sophomore DeMarcus Mitchell may have made the play of the night with a one-handed interception for the Blue squad, who out-gained the White 184-130. Offensive line coach Bill Diesing coached the Blue, and defensive coordinator Tom Watts the White.

The Pioneers begin the season Saturday vs. St. Ambrose at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium.
