UW-Platteville's Tom Christiansen earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award for his punting against St. Ambrose Saturday.
Christiansen, a senior from Wheaton, Ill. (Warrenville South High School), dropped three punts inside the 20-yard line, making the Fighting Bees start at the 8, 1 and 13 on three consecutive third quarter drives in a 16-6 UW-Platteville victory.
The average starting position for St. Ambrose was the 16-yard line in the second half. Christiansen punted six times for a 36.3 average and a long of 44 as the Pioneers won their season opener for the ninth straight season.
The Pioneers face Football Championship Subdivision team Drake Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The 2-0 Bulldogs are ranked first nationally in the Football Gazette Mid-Majors poll and have already defeated full scholarship school Illinois State. UWP and Drake have split their previous four meetings.
