Smidl earned national honors

UW-Platteville's Tony Smidl earned a spot on the D3football.com team for his clutch performance against UW-La Crosse Saturday, Oct. 13.

Smidl, a sophomore from Oshkosh (West High School), kicked three field goals, including the game-winning 17-yard attempt with three seconds remaining, leading UW-Platteville to a 37-34 victory over 18th-ranked UW-La Crosse Saturday. Smidl was 3-4 in field-goal attempts (with a 39-yard try blocked), hitting from 25, 31 and 17 yards. He made all four PAT attempts and averaged 59.0 yards per kick on eight tries, with one being a touchback.

The Pioneers face UW-Eau Claire Saturday at 1 p.m. in Eau Claire's Carson Park.
