At the site of the NCAA III championships, UW-Platteville turned in national contending performances.
The Pioneer men were second out of 27 teams, and the women fourth of 25 at the St. Olaf Invitational Saturday in Northfield, Minn.
UW-La Crosse won the team title with 83 points, while the UWP men had 105 in a who's who meet of the early season. UW-Eau Claire's 97 points were good for the wome's title, with St. Olaf at 142, UW-La Crosse 168 and UW-Platteville 176.
Tyler Sigl was third overall and first among four-year collegiate runners, covering the 8,000-meter race in 25:52. Jason Garvens grabbed 13th in 26:07, Nick Fulton 15th in 26:08, Patrick Klein 29th in 26:33, Aaron Whalen 45th in 26:46, and Tony Kilburg and Cam Klein 47th and 48th, both in 26:50.
Jessica Scott had one of her best running days, placing fourth in 22:57 over the 5K course. Emma Dreis was 14th in 23:19, Lindsey Vick, 15th in 23:22, Hannah Klinger, 64th in 24:28, Eileen McGuine, 79th in 24:48, Trista Baye 83rd in 24:52, and Nikki Schoenbeck 90th in 24:59.
The Pioneers return to action Friday at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational.
