UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl won his third consecutive NCAA IIl Midwest Regional cross country title, and both Pioneer teams turned in top five performances Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne.

Sigl won his race in a stunning 24:02, smashing the school record he set two weeks ago on the same course during the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. Sigl, who won the title by 10 seconds, led the Pioneer men to fifth place among 35 teams in the nation's most competitive regional. The top two teams (UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point) earn automatic trips to next Saturday's NCAA III championships. More teams will be chosen at-large from across the country.

The Pioneer women all but assured themselves of their first-ever trip to the national championships. UWP was third of 37 teams. Wash U. won the team title with 41 points, while UW-Eau Claire had 87, UWP 99, UW-La Crosse 113 and UW-Oshkosh 221 to round out the top five.

All five Pioneer scorers earned all-regional honors. Jessica Scott was sixth overall at 21:38, followed by Emma Dreis, 12th at 21:57; Alli Tank, 23rd at 22:23; Eileen McGuine, 27th, at 22:28; and Lindsey Vick, 31st at 22:29.

The Pioneer men, who ran without injured standout Jason Garvens, had Tony Kilburg join Sigl on the all-region team. Kilburg finished 35th in 25:13. Patrick Klein was 38th in 25:20, Nick Fulton, 53rd in 25:29, and Cam Klein, 56th in 25:33.

UW-La Crosse scored 70, followed by UW-Stevens Point at 76, North Central 118, Augustana 152, and UWP 178.
