Record-setting Sigl, Taddy lead Pioneers

Despite facing top NCAA Division I runners, the UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl and Marcia Taddy placed fourth in their respective races, leading the Pioneers to high team finishes at the Jim Drws and Tori Neubauer Invitationals, hosted by UW-La Crosse Saturday.

The ninth-ranked Pioneer men were seventh out of 31 teams in a meet won by the Wisconsin Badgers. Sigl was the first non-Division I runner to cross the finish line, checking in at a school-record 24:23. Portland's John Moore won in 24:09, followed by Minnesota's Chris Rombough at 24:11, and the Badgers' Christian Wagner third at 24:20.

Sigl's mark was the fastest 8,000-meter run in Pioneer history, surpassing the 24:25 he ran in last year's Jim Drews Invitational.

Aaron Whalen was 46th in 25:43, Kyle Stangel 51st in 25:50, Nick Fulton 59th in 26:00 and Erik Bartelson 90th in 26:30.

The UWP women were sixth out of 28 teams in the Tori Neubauer Invitational, which was won by South Dakota State.

Taddy was fourth in a time of 21:53, while Emma Dreis was 19th in 22:47, Lindsey Vick 33rd in 22:57, Jessica Scott 34th in 22:59, and Qynne Kelly 142nd in 24:37.
