The nationally-ranked UW-Platteville men's and women's cross country teams made successful 2005 debuts, sweeping host UW-Whitewater Saturday morning.
The seventh-ranked Pioneer men, led by individual champion Tyler Sigl, won the 8,000-meter race 26-31, while the 23rd-ranked UWP women scored a 25-34 win in the 5K run.
The men had eight of the first 12 finishers, with Sigl winning in 26:20. Teammate Kyle Stangel was second in 26:41, while Nick Fulton was sixth (27:03), Bob Dillis eighth (27:31), Austen Scudder ninth (27:38), Erik Bartelson 10th (27:39) and Cam Klein 11th (27:56).
The Pioneers took seven of the top 10 women's places, led by Marcia Taddy, who was second in 19:16. Lindsey Vick just missed breaking the 20-minute mark, finishing third in 20:03, while Steph Martin was fifth (20:28), Jessica Scott seventh (20:58), Jessica Davis eighth (21:03), Hanna Landwehr ninth (21:38), and Qynne Kelly 10th (21:44). The Warhawks' Megan Kielar won the race in 18:38.
UW-Platteville will compete at the Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota next Saturday at 9 a.m.
