With the final spots for the UW-Platteville 12-person conference place up for grabs, Aaron Whalen won the Pioneer Invitational Saturday at Memorial Park.
Whalen won the 8K run in 28:07 (pictured above), finishing ahead of teammates Matt Rehberg at 28:10 and Nate Richardson in 28:13. The top nine Pioneer runners did not compete, leaving the race for the remaining UWP runners, some alumni and some members of the greater Milwaukee Track Club.
Katalin Gal, running unattached, took the women's race in 25:26, while Amanda Zart was the first Pioneer runner, taking third in 26:45.
The Pioneers compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships Saturday at UW-Superior.
