Sigl, Pioneers shine at UW-La Crosse

UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl beat every runner from powerhouse NCAA Division I schools such as Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa State, highlighting a strong Pioneer effort at the Jim Drews Invitational at UW-La Crosse Saturday.

Sigl's second-place finish--only SOuth Dakota State's Brad Lowery was ahead of him--lifted the Pioneers to 12th place among 23 teams.

The Pioneer women, led by Marcia Taddy's 11th-place finish, were 13th of 22 teams in the Tori Neubauer meet.

Sigl blazed through the 8,000-meter course in 24:25, nipping the Badgers' Christian Wagner, Ben Wagner and Simon Bairu, who crossed in 24:26.

UW-Madison won the meet with 46 points, while Minnesota had 52 and UW-La Crosse 115.

Kyle Stangel was 56th in 25:56, Nick Fulton 79th in 26:16, Austen Scudder 89th on in 26:26; and Cameron Klein 92nd in 26:34.

Taddy was 11th in the 6K women's race with a time of 22:19. UW-La Crosse, behind champion Julia Rudd, took the team title.

Jessica Scott finished 49th in 23:20, Lindsey VIck 63rd in 23:30, Steph Martin, 93rd in 24:02, and Jessica Davis 108th in 24:40 to score for the Pioneers.
