UW-Platteville played host to nationally ranked number three UW-Whitewater Wednesday night. The Warhawks beat the Pioneers 85-63.
The Pioneers stayed neck and neck with Warhawks for about the first five minutes of the game, but the Warhawks made seven of their first nine shots to pull ahead 17-5.
The Warhawks led by as much as 15 in the first half. The last two minutes of the first half the Pioneers cut the lead to within six with a 37-31 half time score.
The Pioneers came out strong in the second half scoring four quick points to come within two, 37-35. The Warhawks pulled away again with eight straight points and never looked back.
The Pioneers had two players in double digits, Lisa Wubben with 16 and Vanessa Nemitz with 13.
Lindsey Buechner and Rachel Woolever both scored 16 points and Kelsey Hendrickson had 14 points for the Warhawks.
The Pioneers are now 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the WIAC, and the Warhawks are 16-1, 7-1. UWP plays host to UW-Stout Saturday at 3 p.m.
