UW-Platteville defeated UW-River Falls 67-58 Saturday in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference battle on Bo Ryan Court.
This match-up was a battle for both teams with bodies on the floor and everyone going for the ball.
The Pioneers trailed by as much as five and led by as much as six in the first half. The Pioneers were down by only one at halftime, 31-30.
The second half was all Pioneers. With 13 minutes left the Pioneers took the lead and never looked back. The Pioneers went on a 14-2 run, turning a 39-37 deficit into 51-41 lead. Free-throws at the end of the game helped the Pioneers get the victory, 67-58.
Lisa Wubben led all scorers with a double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds. Megan Guernsey had 13 points, Druscilla Schneider had 11 points, and Lisa Grantman had 10 for the Pioneers.
Caitlin Hunstock led the Falcons with 14 points. Teammates Kelli Hilt had nine points and eight rebounds and Jana Benitz had nine points, seven rebounds.
The Pioneers improved to 5-4 overall, 2-1 in the WIAC, and the Falcons fall to 2-5, 0-3.
The Pioneers host Augustana Tuesday at 7 p.m.
