UW-Platteville played host to UW-LaCrosse Thursday night at Bo Ryan Court after the game was postponed on Wednesday night, and UW-LaCrosse pulled out the victory, 65-58.
The Pioneers jump out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Pioneers would lead for the majority of the first half until about one minute left. Dana Churchill put in a bucket for a 25-23 lead for the Eagles.
The Eagles led by four, 27-23, until Angie Vamstad sank a three with about 22 seconds left in the half for a halftime score 27-26, UW-LaCrosse.
The second half was a battle for both teams. The Pioneers jumped ahead off a Vamstad jumper to regain the lead at 32-31. The Pioneers held the lead for about five minutes. A layup by Mandy Stevens put the Eagles back up by one at 42-41.
The Eagles would keep the lead until about five and a half minutes left. A three-pointer by Lisa Grantman put the Pioneers up by one, 51-50, but two free-throws by Lindsay Wahl put the Eagles back up, 52-51.
The Pioneers would go without a field goal for the final 4:20 of the game.
With UW-LaCrosse up 54-53, Wahl made a layup and foul for the lead, 57-53 with about three and a half minutes to play. The Pioneers would never lead again in the game.
Vamstad led the Pioneers with 17 points and Grantman scored 14.
Wahl led all scorers with 19 and seven rebounds. Churchill had 15 points and Mackenzie Hunter had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles.
UW-Platteville is now 10-11 overall, 4-8 in the WIAC. UW-LaCrosse is 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the WIAC.
UW-Platteville travels to UW-Whitewater Wednesday, Feb. 13, for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
