The UW-Platteville Pioneers lost to the Eau Claire Blugolds 73-61 in a conference match-up Wednesday on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers led for the first 13 minutes of the game with good momentum, leading by as much as 21-14. The Pioneers went almost five minutes without a score as the Blugolds scored 18 straight to lead by nine at halftime, 34-25.
The Pioneers came out of halftime closing the gap within six points in the first few seconds, but would never take the lead in the second half.
The Blugolds led by as much as 16 but the Pioneers cut the lead to 12 for a final 73-61 victory for the Blugolds.
Three players scored in double-digits for the Pioneers. Lisa Grantman led the way with 17, while teammates Vanessa Nemitz had 16 and Lisa Wubben had 10.
Michelle Burns scored 21 points and Heidi Ariszewski had 18 for Eau Claire, while Heather Witt had nine points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Blugolds improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the WIAC, and the Pioneers fell to 4-4, 1-1. UWP plays host to UW-River Falls Saturday at 1 p.m.
