UW-Platteville set a new defensive standard in beating Temple Baptist 68-20 Sunday in the consolation game in the Cardinal Stritch Thanksgiving Tournament in Milwaukee.

The 20 points allowed were the fewest allowed during the two decades of shot-clock basketball. (Before the clock, UWP held Clarke to 16 in a 67-16 win in 1978).

The Pioneers allowed the Ohio school just two baskets in the first half in running up a 39-4 halftime advantage. The four first-half points set another defensive standard for UWP.

None of the Pioneer starters played more than eight minutes, as Coach Tina Kuhle was able to get a good look at her entire team in game conditions.

Ashley Callahan scored 12 points, while Morgan Overbye and Angie Vamstad each had 10 off the bench. Starting point guard Megan Guernsey made all four shots and finished with nine points.

UWP, now 2-3, will face Millikin and first team all-American Lindsay Ippel Wednesday in the Pioneers' home opener. Tip-off on Bo Ryan Court is set for 7 p.m.
