UW-Platteville defeated UW-Superior 66-43 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers scored 14 straight points in the first half, turning 9-7 deficit into 21-9 lead. The Pioneers never looked back from this point. The Pioneers went into halftime with a 10-point lead at 32-22.
The Pioneers' intense defense was the key in this victory. The Pioneers forced 28 turnovers on the Yellowjackets while only having 11 of their own. The Pioneers scored 33 of their 66 points off of UW-Superior's turnovers.
The Pioneers led by as many as 30 in the second half. This game was a team effort for UW-Platteville with 10 players scoring and everyone getting time on the court.
Becky Roberts of UW-Superior (now 2-2 overall) was the game's leading scorer with 11 points. Lisa Grantman and Ashley Callahan both had 10 for UW-Platteville (4-3).
UW-Platteville plays host to UW-Eau Claire Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
